It's late on a Friday...the lady is already napping--so I can get some reprieve!

I thought it would be fun to post some photos of your favorite "stagnation era" leader, Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev. Here are a couple I like.

Sweet! I've never seen that photo of the GenSek swimming, nice one!
I've seen that second color photo, of Ilyich on the phone..it's from a recent "Gensek and Photographer" book by Musalyan, former photographer to the Soviet stars.

I agree, I'd love to own that rotary state phone!

Btw, for our non-Russian speakers, the first black and white photo is captioned:
"Novaya Zemlya landing operation played a significant part in the liberation of Novorossiysk. This lodgement was visited multiple times by the head of the political department of the 18th army, Coronel L.I. Brezhnev."

The second one is captioned:
"Victory Parade 1945.
Group of Generals, participants in the Victory Parade. In the center: Major-General L.I. Brezhnev, at that time the head of the political department of the 4th Ukrainian Front."

He moved up quickly!

He was definitely the most flamboyant Gensek..
I love the random pine branch in his hat in the second photo below. Camouflage!

Right, Brezhnev and finnish president Kekkonen. They both reached about the same stage of mummification by the end.
