Help identifying this dug blade
Hello,
I bought this ground dug blade from a fellow forum member and I am trying to get more information about it. I cannot distinguish the full writing on the blade. Can someone help finding what's the writing or has more information about this blade. I'm interesting to learn about the type and model of knife it was on and the manufacture and location as well as approximate year of production. Thanks a lot.:thumbsup |

Re: Help identifying this dug blade
I don't have details on the location, but it was somewhere in Poland. Blade might be (or not) Soviet-made.
The total length of the blade (not including the narrow part that was covered by handle) is 142mm, while the maximum width is 22mm. Last edited by matteti; 10-22-2010 at 11:05 AM. |

Re: Help identifying this dug blade
The knife is in Poland refered to as ZiK 40 (altough this particular one was NOT made in Zlatoust). From what I have learned, soviet designation was NR40. in 1955 this kind of knives were copied by the Polish Army and were produced as wz.55, probably by Gerlach factory.
This particular blade probably comes from Lower Silesia, but I don't know that for sure - I got the larger amount of them - with various markings (one even had ZiK marking, but most with totaly unreadable.) Most of them have found their new homes quite some time ago:(... I would also be glad to learn what factory is this. |

Re: Help identifying this dug blade
Thanks Al-muell to add these comments.
I also found reference to NR40 on internet (including a nice wikipedia page), but since the marking didn't match, I just assumed it was something totally different. But the dimensions seems to match the NR40 type of knive. I wonder if I should try cleaning a bit of the oxydation on the blade to read the full marking. |
