This Medal was instituted on the 26th May 1976.
Awarded to Bulgarian and foreign citizens for their active cooperation to the Security of Borders servicemen. It was also given to servicemen for bravery, heroism and long service.
33 mm in diameter.
Obverse: a sign "For Merits in the Sphere of Security of the Borders" above are images of a man, soldier and a pioneer. Reverse: Laurel wreath, border stone with the National crest and "PRB", star and "MVR". The ribbon of the medal is on a pentagonal suspension and is yellow, light green and dark-green
