Fake Medal Bars.
How does this medal bar look, gentlemen? Put-together, or authentic? Thanks for your help!

Re: Medal bar
It's "period correct" but the creases on the ribbons inform me that the ribbons were removed from pentagonal suspensions and put on this suspension. Sometimes the owners did it themselves, but if go to Voentorg to buy an aluminum suspension, why not buy new ribbons themselves? I'm less concerned about the Lenin though, it was against regulations to put it on a ribbon bar but not uncommon to do so.

Re: Medal bar
Plausible enough (I guess), non-regulation, but without documents you'll never know.

Re: Medal bar
It's a plausible combination of awards, the wear of the ribbons is consistent, it's plausible that the creases in the ribbons are due to the switch from single suspension to multi-slot bar, and the Lenin centenary medal was quite often put on a five-sided suspension or medal bar. It's all plausible, but just an opinion. :thumbsup

Re: Medal bar
about the lenin commemorative, I'm still waiting for photographic eveidences if it is so uncommon... My guess: at best, this bar is a gathering of an incomplete or spli group of medals.

Re: Medal bar
Thank you, all, for your thoughts. Some good details pointed out. I don't have much experience with medal bars, so a big take-away here was simply that there wasn't any blatant warning sign I missed.
As to the issue of Lenin centenary medals and medal bars, here is an interesting example from my collection. The armed forces anniversary medal went missing and was replaced by the Lenin medal, which also went missing in part. Notice also how the bars are ribboned. I suppose that's just how the recipient did it. He had a fairly high rank too. (Group posted here http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...h-ustinov.html) |

IMO doubtful a vet did that. More likely a recent job and worth very little more than just the sum of the parts. Still, she ain't half bad looking. :D

Re: Medal bar
We are not playing the plausibility game again are we?
Someone will want paying.
