Thanks Bryan,

I won't forget to ask first, about the english translation...

Cheers.

What to bring back ?

I do know we have to be very prudent with exporting cultural items... and I'll take no risk .
See this thread (post #4) :
http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/...read.php?t=3510

But, what about books?

I'm also a collector of architecture books, and I am specifically interested in books about the Soviet architecture from the 20-30's, as well as the 50-70's period...
To your knowledge, is there any problem to export these, even the 20-30's books ?

And in a general manner, what to bring back ?

Many thanks in advance.

Ch.

Christophe,

For whatever reason, both customs and post office are really tough with books. Here again the 50 year rule applies: if less than 50 years old, it's no problem, if over 50 year old, big boo-boo. As far as I can tell, it is very strictly enforced, much more so than for other items.

Marc

PS: since you ask what to bring back, caviar is still a favorite over there, even though prices are skyrocketing at the same rate as Soviet orders. Beware, most sellers peddle fake caviar (yep, they fake that too). The best place to buy the real thing at a reasonable price is at Ryba on Nevsky, just below Our Lady of Kazan (cash only ).

They just taking a caviar from other fish (not as expensive as original) and adding a black color to it. If you never tasted original - you will never know the difference.

Guys,

Even if you have tasted the real thing, you won't tell the difference before you open the can, but by then it is too late.

Goddamnit! Maybe you should also take care of fake museums and fake buildings! With all the stuff being faked now who knows...?

Finally its very simple! I'm sure the black ink taste is wonderfull.

They really seem to fake everything in that country! I'm still very surprise they even fake caviar.

Manu,

Even so I believe that is nothing compared to the fakes industry in China!...

As far as I know real caviar is the eggs of a fish called sturgeon.
Fake caviar is simple the eggs of some other fish, nothing too complicate
