He was engaged in particularly fierce fighting during the annihilation of the encircled enemy troops in Budapest and the destruction of the enemy tank grouping near Zamol [Zámoly].

On January 3, 1945, while carrying out a combat mission near Nadshat at an altitude of 305, he conducted four ground assaults at the target, as a result of which 2 vehicles and 1 tank were destroyed and up to 10 enemy soldiers and officers were killed.

On January 4, 1945, while carrying out a mission with a group of 12 Il-2s near Baina [Bajna], the group of Il-2s was attacked by 30 Me-109s. All enemy attacks were beaten off and the mission was accomplished in an excellent manner.

On January 11, 1945 the enemy had concentrated a strong tank grouping near Zamol [Zámoly], the objective of which was to break through to the east in one violent blow. Given orders to destroy the enemy tank grouping, Chemerkin displayed exceptional proficiency and valour. As a result of the combined actions with his comrades, the enemy tank grouping’s offensive was frustrated, for which the commander of the 4th Guards Army and front’s Military Council expressed their gratitude.
