Medal "For Rescuing The Drowning".
Hi there!
Do anyone knows what is the rarity of this medal? I know that aprox. 21000 were awarded. Also, it will be interesting to know if somone have the document for the medal - all the medals I saw were from the 60's. Tal |

Tal,
McDaniel gives this award a rarity rating of 2. A less common piece which is readily available. There are alot of fakes out there of this medal. McDaniel notes that all pieces with soldere on rings are fakes. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the award book, but McDaniel shows one in his book. Art

A light blue cover..never seen one of those before. Cool.
I wonder if the serial numbering is any indication of number issued? probably not, maybe more of a record-keeping device.

There have been told many reasons in this forum why some of the paper documents were not stamped.
One more which I believe: sometimes the clerk who made the documents made a mistake or just didn´t done his job well. Maybe he had a concert in the evening or something like that and he was very hurry. So he just decied to stop working or tried to do it faster. So all the documents with no stamp are not fakes. Hi,
My Russian is not so good, but the two handwritten lines say the same thing as the stamp - Dneprpetrovsk Oblast. This must be the authority that issued the medal. As for the name, his first name is Yuri, after that, my translating skills are not so good. Keith |
