MVD Uniform - MVD badge

Is it correct, that the MVD cotton badge is worn on the left sleeve of the jacket?

Re: MVD Uniform - MVD badge

That patch doesnt look too...authentic.
I've only ever seen those types with the word "militia" written on the top in cyrillic.

The uniform itself looks okay though. :) Nice.

The patch is a parade version of the militia patch, circa 1977-late 1980s.

Re: MVD Uniform - MVD badge

This brings to mind a question I've been wanting to ask: are the collar tabs supposed to stop and fit with the stitching along the collar or go all the way to the base of the collar as the drawings seem to indicate in the last Soviet military handbook? The same question goes for coats. It seems logical that they would follow the contours of the stitching.

Thanks,
Phillip

It's not really variants, the first, with word militsia, are for the omon, intervention forces created in the 80's. the others are milice nco's parade badges.
Here a photo were the two kinds of badges are worn alongside:

At left, the arm of an nco with the parade badge, the omon badge for the two officers with berets at right.

Poor word choice on my part, but variant was used in regards to there being three different patches. The OMON patch did not come into use until the late 1980s only a few years prior to the dissolution of the USSR.

Did not know of the variants, sorry. :o

Im not sure about collar tabs, they are mysterious to me as I myself have never had to apply them and I have not had the pleasure of handling a regulations book.

I had to watch as a friend of mine pulled the collar tabs and shoulder boards off of his light grey parade coat before giving it to me saying "It would not be wise to wear the coat with these on it." He, of course was right. He gave me the insignia and I still have them, but darn it if I can't remember exactly how they were before.

As for the regulation book, I guess I can post pictures here if I give the correct credit - right Art? And you can usually pick up a copy on the e-site for about $30.
