Re: How to display Soviet awards

Yes. The glories are II and III class. There is also an order of red star in the set. All belonging to the same person.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Is that why you have the two awards booklets in the display? I wanted to ask about them before, but forgot until just now.

I would love to see it in the research section.

Laurent,

Care to share some good scans of each one of them in the HSU thread?

For sure, Marc!
As soon as I've got some time, I'll post scans in the HSU thread (I have the COA from PMD for each of them).
I already posted the research for two of them :
http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...-y-dertev.html
http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...in-4762-a.html

And should I post the two others (infantry and aviation)?

Beautiful. Really, that is the best way to display those awards - class and elegance.

Phillip

I had to get a bigger case (27"X17") and I am not sure the screw-back awards will work - especially the ORS and GPWs which is okay since I have another one planned for just WWII medals (campaign, defense and conquer) and the orders can go there. I just wanted a single case with all of the possible orders and medals someone could be awarded (particularly if they were in the military).

Of course, since I still haven't found "my" Lenin, that is a reproduction along with the HSU and HSL, Border Guard (getting a real one of them soon) and most of the public order medals.

I haven't decided about the badges at the bottom yet either. I have one each from the 10, 16 and 15 scroll/ribbon public university grad badges, the highest political CPSS academy, one from Leningrad and an original SVB (communists for atheism in the military) badge. Outside of the mines and the virgin lands, I suppose I just need to get a Saving a Drowning Person, Bravery During a Fire, the Moscow and Leningrad anniversary medals. I'm not terribly interested in the motherhood medals (any I've picked up, I've given to my mother).

But the question is (again), since the main purpose of this display is educational - which is how I justify the fakes until they are replaced with authentic medals - do I need to put tiny pieces of paper with the English name and basic reason for the award or keep it aesthetically pleasing to the eye the way it seems to be (to me) now? I haven't attached any of the pieces in place yet - not even the backing cloth. I'm going to try tiny "T" pins so I can remove them easily when I need to. Right now, I'm soliciting opinions before I make final adjustments.

Feel free to express yourself. I will read every comment and hopefully get some good ideas.

Apologies for the dark pictures and the flash - small digital camera and poor lighting in this room.

Phillip

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Super nice collection Phillip.

2 questions though.

Uno: Have you researched the HSU? You should.
Dos: Are you sending me the HSU for a Christmas present? That would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: How to display Soviet awards

Norm, thank you for the compliment. I'll be glad to send you the HSU I have. But you might want to read the second paragraph of my description of the display before you give me your address. Remember, this is supposed to be an educational display that is hopefully nice enough looking to give my friends and family some idea why I collect all this stuff.

Like I said, I'm planning a similar one just for GPW orders and medals. Then one for Afghanistan, and so on.

Phillip
