Danny,

I believe this is a genuine late vatiation badge. I am not sure about the screwplate - according to Borisov this badge was only made by Leningrad mint.

Alexei,
what does that mean for my post #19 where I claim that the two badges shown are made in different factories based on their nutplates?

Dear Dietrich,

The only confirmed information I have is from the Borisov's book, and he mentions that this badge was produced by the Leningrad Mint. By July 1941 they made 149106 pieces. May I ask where did you learn about the Leningrad enamel factory making these badges?

Alexei, I wonder whether Borisov is clear that these badges were only made at the Leningrad Mint or whether he is just listing the quantity made at the Mint but leaves the possibility open that they were also made someplace else. The two badges I show in Post 19 were accepted as genuine in this thread but have nutplates with other names. I have no information about the Leningrad enamel factory.

Dietrich,

Both your badges look fine to me. You are right, Borisov doesn't say specifically that it was manufactured only by the LM, but if he had any information to the contrary he would've mentioned it, he always does. Still, his book is not the definitive reference on the subject, so I suppose it is possible, and I should be more careful about what I say. Lesson learnt, thanks!

I bought one of these identified as"current production, struck on origional dies". I'm a novice at collecting, but it suited my purpose at the time. I've
since become more discriminating in my buying (thanks to this forum), but
may still purchase a reproduction occasionally.

Re: Excellent RKKA Serviceman

It would seem good, even if the incision seems to be very fresh.
Perhaps it is better to wait the opinion of Marc...

Re: Excellent RKKA Serviceman

These were typically not numbered. I definitely don't like #1 and #2 is at least in the style of the day, but no telling whether original or not in light of these badges not being officially numbered at the mint.
