Captain Smerechinskij, Sergej Timofeevich participated in the Patriotic War from 22nd June 1941 to October 1942 as commander of the Tank Company of the 628th Separate Battalion Of Communications 261st Rifle Division in August 1942 in the region of Rudenkovo whilst carrying out combat tasks with men and equipment of the Command Point of the 261st Rifle Division was cut off from their units for 6 days and was repeatedly in enemy crossfire and had to leave it. Under his supervising command 15 signallers and 4 pieces of equipment for under water communication with no losses left the encirclement.
In September 1942 in the region of Gorjachij Kljuch whilst performing combat tasks was wounded in the left hand, to be evacuated to hospital he refused and continued to perform his tasks. His personal participation ensured uninterrupted communication to the 973rd Rifle Regiment located at the rear of the enemy.
Located at the front provided stable communication to active units and reconnaissance, for which he had a series of promotions.

At the current time - Commander 623rd Separate Company Of Communications, 261st Rifle Division leading the company with good indicators to perform combat tasks. Ranks first place in the units of communications in the division.

For active participation in the Patriotic War and good combat preparation of the company is worthy of the governmental award Order "Red Star".
