Re: Dynamo; the Stasi Sports Organization

Hi Phillip,

Rosgosstrakh is the Russian National Insurance Company.
RGS is its short name.

Here its corporate history :
"Heir to Gosstrakh - the Soviet state insurance monopoly - Rosgosstrakh (RGS) has almost 87 years of history behind it, evolving from the time when insurance was a state-delivered and regulated service to the present-day market-driven leadership position. RGS has been able not only to retain practically the whole of the vast former network of Gosstrakh in Russia but also to build on it, expanding its presence, increasing the number of agents and overhauling the infrastructure. It has also been able to preserve the confidence of millions of its clients while reviving the old and universally respected brand name, modernizing it and infusing it with a new distinct drive, confidence and reliability. Today, the RGS brand name is immediately recognized right across Russia and attracts millions of new clients every year.

Until 2001, Rosgosstrakh was state-owned. Since mid-2003 a consortium of Russian investors holds the controlling stake in the company, having acquired 75% minus four shares in several open privatization auctions. The federal government retains the balance of shares."

Re: Dynamo; the Stasi Sports Organization

What a trip! I went to work at the behest of my best friend with him at his insurance office just over a year ago. He scoffs at me wearing the jersey, but I think he will sing a different tune now. Incidentally, I hate insurance and wish that I could go back to teaching full time, but it doesn't pay the bills.:dissapoint Thanks for the information and the history lesson - you don't happen to be in their PR department, do you?:D

All this time that I've been wearing that jersey I had no idea what I was advertising. What I do know is that every time I have worn it in public, at least one woman has stopped me to say how good looking the jersey (not me) is.:thumbsup Gotta love that.

Thanks, Ralph. Still trying to add to it, although things are a bit on the "dry" side at present.

Re: Dynamo; the Stasi Sports Organization

Nice show, Greg. Very interesting and I think I learned that what I thought before (was told before) was a Romanian Dynamo stickpin is really East German because the pin is only the red "shield" with the "D" exactly the way it is done with these without the surrounding flare.:thumbsup

Re: Dynamo; the Stasi Sports Organization

Also, Phil, the DDR's Dynamo stands apart from the rest in the rendering of the "D" itself. On the East German Dynamo, the "D" is, more or less, a simplified letterform Germanic "D". All the others are, more or less, a cursive "D" in the form we were all taught in school- note the loop at the bottom. Where the Russian, Ukrainian and Hungarian (Dozsa) differ from the Romanian "D" is the "hitch" in the middle of the descender (first line from top to bottom forming the "D")- the Romanian lacks this. I'm sure this is much more than anyone wanted to know, but typography was a major field of study when I was pursuing that Commercial Art degree.:D
