cavalry officer 1977
Yes, the red army did not have a cavalry branch after the war, BUT there was a small cavalry ceremonial guard unit for moscow...i have never had in one of the uniforms for this group, but thanks to some tips from Gene and Dave I was able to get this one; hat (with rain cover), tunic, pants, belt, with 2 id books to this major.
I am pretty much never impressed with postwar officer uniforms, but this one caught my eye! DougD |

Wow! Score!
I personally prefer post-war uniforms (Yes, I know, Heresy), for their almost "futuristic" appearance by comparison. Incidentally, did the Calvary use the same royal blue branch color as the KGB? The uniform looks almost exactly like a KGB parade uniform, with different insignia, patches (the cap's piping is darker too, I think).

uniform
Its fun to have on display until it goes to its new owner! yes, the royal blue is the same as KGB officers, but the cap is piped in black, not royal blue (but does have royal blue capband).

Soviet post-war cavalry were nicknamed "flimstars" as they appeared in many Soviet era films where cavalry actions were depicted. I have somewhere the formation name and regiment number and despite what a lot of people say I don't think they were actually part of the KGB.

Guys,
Someting seems to be amiss here. Officers (in this case a Mayor) did not wear an arm patch, as per regulations. Only enlisted sergeants did. Marc |

As this cavalry formation was almost exclusively ceremonial, the arm patch would fit it as they would form guards of honour at various events in the Soviet calender. A lot of regulations did not apply to this cavalry formation, as with the Kremlin Guards.

arm patch
Yes, officers in Honor Guards and Ceremonial Units did wear the arm patch, so it is correct.

I assumed the Cavalry's sole function was ceremonial, so arm-patches would make sense (even if they weren't embroidered like those of the honor guard).
