Fake Civil War Regimental Banner.
Here is what the seller has to say:
YOU ARE BIDDING ON A GENUINE EXTREMELY RARE CIVIL WAR ERA EARLY RUSSIAN REGIMENTAL BANNER. Description: This large regimental banner is made of red material (silk?) with yellow frindge and stitched-on design (identical on both sides) depicting an image of a red star with hammer and sickle over a raising Sun with inscription above: "PROLETARIATS OF ALL COUNTRIES UNITE!" and below: "1 SOVIET'S MARCHING REGIMENT." The design clearly indicates mid 1920s manufacture. Size: 52 in x 63 in (132 cm x 160 cm) Superb original condition very light staining and wear at the pole side. Extremely rare, museum-quality item. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the story of this flag?

I am not fond of it. If I had a good feeling that it was genuine, I'd probably be very interested in adding it to my collection.

flag
Nope, sorry...don't like it; i have had in alot of civil war flags and used to have a collection of about 20 of them ( Dave has some of them now!) and this one does not fit the mold; embroidery is too bright, unit designation looks like its trying to be stylized too much and very odd its on silk; civil war flags were pretty much always cotton. I think it might have been made for parade in 1967 for the 50th avviversary celebrations. I really do not think its civil war era.

Doug would be the man to know, but it just looks too new, no aging, and the design is good, but seems "forced"-, like someone tried really hard.

It is again on ebay, from another seller ( ), for US $3,995.00
The new description is: "YOU ARE BIDDING ON a 100% genuine extremely rare c. 1920's large Russian early Soviet regimental banner. Regimental banners are the hardest military items to obtain, since they almost never end up in private hands. The absolute majority of Soviet banners are in collections of Russian military and historical museums. Description: Two-sided silk banner with stitched on image of a red star over a white glowing circle with incription above: "PROLETARIANS OF ALL COUNTRIES UNITE! and below THE FIRST SOVIET MARCHING REGIMENT. This item is in very good original condition, very light use. Measurements: 52 in x 63 in (132 cm x 160 cm) "

shell game
They really are the same seller, he just uses different names on e-bay. I think as of now he has three or four "names" that each specialize in different repros that are sold as real. dd
