Bulgarian Ribbon Bars.

This is the first time I'm seen one of these. (currently on E)
If it is Bulgarian (I'm not that familiar with their ribbons) it's very interesting.
Just thought I'd share.

Here's a pretty nice Bulgarian ribbon bar I recently added to the collection. I cannot determine exactly how it was made; it does not have the "painterly" feel of the Mongolian counterparts, nor does it have the paper ribbon feel of a DDR ribbon bar. If anyone knows how this was made, I'd appreciate the info. Anyway, the ribbons are (left to right, top to bottom):
1. Order of the Peoples' Rep. of Bulgaria (class unknown)
2. Same as above
3. Order of the 9th of September 1944 (2nd Class)
4. Order of National Liberty (2nd Class)
5. Order of the Red Banner
6. Medal of Merit to the State (Yugoslavian award)
7. Medal for Participation in the Antifascist Struggle
8. Medal for Combat Merit
9. Long Service (20 years)
10. Long Service (15 years)
11. Patriotic War Medal 1944-45
12. 20 Years of the Bulgarian Peoples' Army
13. 25 Years of Peoples' Rule
14. 25 Years of the Bulgarian Peoples' Army
15. Victory Over Germany (USSR award)

The back shows soldered strips of brass and, instead of a single "pin and clasp", it has two long, opposing, stationary "needles" that secure it to the uniform.

Re: Bulgarian Ribbon Bar

That's a nice one!
I think I've seen similar examples of that attachement method on other Bulgarian bars.

Bulgarian Ribbons.

Unlike their soviet counterparts, I´ve never been able to find sources to get ribbons and suspension devices for PRB awards. Have any of you found something or have the same problem than I do?

Re: Sources for bulgarian ribbons

I'd be surprised if somebody here didn't have a connection for you on the ribbons.
And as far as I recall the few Bulgarian medals on single suspensions I got years ago were on soviet type suspensions.

You mean made in the Soviet Union or just the pentagonal pattern?
Bulgarian suspensions varied as time went by, the construction materials (brass and aluminium), attachments and dimensions.

Sometimes my minds gets busy thinking in how hard would be making up a bulgarian medal bar. :)

See here: http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...arian-bar.html That's a bar I made up from single medals I had.
Not sure why I did it (years ago) but it wasn't to deceive as I still own it. I guess I thought it would look cool.

Very nice bar! :thumbsup

I´m still looking for a ribbon to complete the order, but haven´t found nothing yet. :(

Re: Sources for bulgarian ribbons

I can't really remember, to tell the truth. They were aluminum, pentagonal, and Soviet style.
But all this was before I became aware of the nuances of this collecting bug.

Sorry I can't help more. :(
