Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.

Hi

If we look at official portraits of Soviet marshals of the USSR, we can see that if the Marshal CCCP is pictured with dress uniform or the 1945 victory parade uniform, we can identify Russian imperial awards, among awards from other countries.

Do anyone have an idea about the regulations concerning display of imperial awards on Soviet uniforms?

Do they have ribbons for the imperial awards, on the "fruit salad" (when the marshal used his everyday uniform)?

Tal,

I've always seen them on the side opposite of Soviet awards. Take a look at this pic of Zukov..I can't recall seeing foreign awards on a Soviet service uniform.

There are many cases of foreign awards on soviet uniforms. Take a close look at Brezhnev's fruit salad or many pictures in McDaniel's book. The most common foreign award I saw was the Czech cross of WW2, and some awards from Yugoslavia.

However, I can't recall any picture with ribbons for Imperial awards.

Tal

In this picture we can see the Czech cross of WW2:

And here 2 foreign medals:

I think the foreign medal is from Bulgaria:

Now this is impressive:

HSU, Order of Lenin, 4orders of the red banner, Orders of Suvorov, Kutozov, Khmelnitski - among other - but what he have on his neck?

And last: what is the order on his pocket????

at the large "fruit salad" picture, the lowest 5 ribbons are foreign ribbons. At the Marshal picture, the lowest 13 are foreign.

Now that is something..I never noticed that. I wonder if any U.S. ribbons were worn like this on a Soviet uniform, or vice versa..I guess it's something that transcends politics.

Guys,
You confuse foreign awards with Russian imperial. Foreign awards were common for high rank army personal. Mongolian awards even were made by Soviet mint. From another hand, Russian imperial awards were not allowed. Only on imperial awards was tolerated and it was soldier St. George Cross. Many soldiers and officers who participated in World War II had this Cross for World War I. It had four classes. Soviet Marshall Budenniy had all four classes of this soldier award but never wore them.
On the picture HSU Nedorubov wearing four St. George crosses.

Eugene,

The question remains - why imperial orders/medals were allowed on full dress uniforms, but on every day uniforms no ribbons were included?

Can you identify some of the orders in the above pictures?
