Watch out

Although it frequently happens intentionally and sometimes unintentionally, I just noticed an Ebay seller from Ukraine - toshka2202 - selling paper documents along with Soviet decorations that are in no way related. For example, there is an original period NKVD citation for a CSM, but there is no way to prove the accompanying CSM he is selling is related to the citation. He does the same thing with an OPWII. Unscrupulous to say the least...

Re: Watch out

I have found that ebay is a great place to find items at a reasonable price but it is also where you can loose your shirt on fakes and a disregard by the seller for offering things in a proper manner. I would add that everyone should watch out for a user named xsait, he is also in Ukraine and he sells rare medals claiming they are original but they are cast replicas.

Absolutely - on both counts...

So, BEFORE you bid or buy, do your own homework using research thru written reference, websites, and the archives of the many forums that are available at one's disposal. Most of the latter two sources are FREE OF CHARGE.

If you do not seem satisified with your hours upon hours of work that did not yield a result that you are 100% comfortable with, consult with the more experienced... These individuals exist, and there exist many on these wonderful, informative forums who are more than willing to assist.

IMO ; "Sellers are sellers that are sellers". The majority just SELL for the sake of selling, and turning a profit, and are totally impartial to the final satisfaction of the customer and/or the quality of their wares to justify repeat business.

In any case, the final decision is up to YOU, the buyer... There is no one else to blame for a negative transaction where the buyer did not "do his homework" - Especially in this facet of the business world - This facet being "Antiques & Collectables"...

Re: Watch out

I'd love to add to this list of ebay sellers, since I have seen a bunch that not only rip people off, but destroy history by tampering with medals to make them more "desirable." I want to get back at them, and save people from spending hundreds of dollars on fakes.

However, before I join in, I just want to ask, is this thread consistent with forum rules? I thought about starting my own topic about this, so I asked Art about it a week or two ago. His response:

I appreciate you asking. I would really rather the members not get into that. Unless the person is a member here, they have no opportunity to defend themselves and their actions. What you guys say to each other via PM however is entirely up to you.

Regards,

Art
Has this stance changed? If so, I have a few sellers to add to the list.

Re: Watch out

reasonly i both 2 visor cap's from sub******,,

the service and communication was good , the visor caps were original pieces.
he had the wrong badge to the cap on one but that happens all around.
it might not even has been his honest mistake.

if he did it he down marketed the badge (normal officers service instate of parade one).

i only once got a fake cap,
the offer was too good to be true and turned out to be a fake.
i don't recall the name of the seller, i posted negative feedback on e-bay.
it would be a kick extra to hang them here.
