My Soviet Patch Collection
Hello to All!
I'm new here and I have been collecting Soviet uniform patches for around nine years. My collection is not super impressive (the VAST majority of them were purchased on ebay, from sellers all across the globe) but steadily has been growing. I can't begin to recall how many potential patch auctions I have lost out on that would make this even larger. Nonetheless, I have a number of patches to trade/barter with if anyone has patches that can help flesh out my collection. If at nothing else if anyone knows of some quality patch dealers I'm all ears. Ebay has a number of fake patches (fake Soviet patches I find amusing, since they are not that well-collected) so I've had to try and find new sources for collecting. A number of my patches I have no idea what they are, but I am 100% sure they are authentic. Any help is appreciated, and subsequently if anyone wants closeups I'd be happy to provide them. I can't post the images of each display case, but I have a photobucket album if anyone is interested in seeing them. There are around 200 different examples. The photo is of the collection all together. Last edited by pastfinder; 09-09-2008 at 10:46 PM. |

Pastfinder,
Welcome to the cloth forum! You have a great patch collection, can't say I have ever seen a larger one! This is a great forum, almost all members here really want to both help and learn; I am sure you will be asked some questions on patches in the future! DougD Moderator |

Re: My Soviet Patch Collection
Hi Doug,
Many thanks. I'm happy to help folks out with inquiries, spotting fakes, etc. I'm excited at the prospect of finally figuring out what some of the patches I have are! |

Re: My Soviet Patch Collection
Honestly I don't fully know what I am "missing," so to speak, since I keep finding more examples of patches either not in my reference books or just that I have never seen before. Here are the first three of my eight cases of patches. There is one in particular I know I am missing, and that is the training patch with five yellow stripes on blue. That one in particular has alluded me for years, why I don't know!
Do note the one item is not a patch in the upper right hand corner of case 1, but rather a little banner. I just stuck it in there to keep it safe. I'm up for trading it for a patch any day. Last edited by pastfinder; 09-10-2008 at 10:23 AM. |

Re: My Soviet Patch Collection
Nice collection.
I'm not sure about the authenticity of some of them, most notably case #6, bottom left. The airborne patches are baby blue - not black. |

You may also want to use the search function to look up "dembel". Several of these standard patches have some creative adaptions made by soldiers preparing to go home from draft service.

Re: My Soviet Patch Collection
I don't disagree with that. These are sold on ebay by one individual, and I think they are fake (after I bought them, argh) because the detail is quite frankly "too good." They literally stand out by having too great an attention to detail, something you can achieve in making VERY small quantities.
