Did you try to remove it ?

It looks like a date (05.05.04), a price (10 ?) and a code... Probably nothing of historic value.
When did you get this medal ?

So, it's consistent with the date. My guess would have been wrong if you had this medal since an earlier date than May 2004.

Cheers.

Combat

I got this type 2 variation 3 medal today. It has an interesting plastic cover to protect the ribbon. There are only one tiny crack in the cover.
I think this will be the first medal in over 6 months! Can't believe I made it that long. :yow

Nice U-shaped ring variation, :thumbsup

I have seen this plastic cover before, maybe to protect the ribbon against
dirt.

regards
Andreas

I think so too, that it was meant to keep the ribbon clean.

Thank You

Erik,

You are right, this plastic cover was used to protect the ribbon. I have even seen it on earlier rectangular suspension medals.

Yes, When You mention it I think I have seen it too. I wonder when this plastic material first was used... fourties maybe fifties? Or much later perhaps?
