2nd October 1941 during the withdrawal of the regiment to new positions with a group of fighters courageously and fearlessly for 12 hours held back an onslaught of superior forces of German-Fascist troops. Allowing retreating units to the new positions. Only after the order to retreat did he leave his occupied position.

Commander Of The Regiment Major Zhigarev
Military Commissar Of The Regiment Battalion Commissar Tsesis

A rather short but solid citation for action during the last great push of Operation Barbarossa. His solid and unwavering defence came over 6 months before Stalin's Order #227 "No Step Back!". A very "Defence of Moscow" award.

The Army journal for 2nd October 1941 shows a very difficult situation. The first line of the day's entry is "Active German Offensive". The Army's journal also stops recording after 3rd October.

I'll probably frame this group soon. Not a bad buy for $125 I think - but that's 2016 prices.
