Well, that's wasn't my intention....but they are GREAT. If you have some US State quarters - proof version - the Soviet rubles are the same in quality, but with extra 'value" of the Soviet history.

If they produced the best orders/medals in the world, why shouldn't they have not produced also the best coins?

There are many nice coins relevant to our militaria hobby. Has anyone seen the new Russian coins featuring "hero cities"? Tal probably has an image handy if not, I can scan the ones I have. There are also coins featuring Zhukov and other award-winners.

Hero Cities coins
Hello everyone, Here's description for the Hero Cities coins issues by Russian Federation: "Russia issued this set of seven circulating commemorative 2 Ruble and a bi-metallic 10 Ruble coin in 2000 to commemorate the 55th anniversary of World War II, or as it is known in Russia: "The Great Patriotic War". In many ways, the 2 Rubles are similar to the States Quarter program of the United States, but rather than feature scenes from each state, they feature the battles and contributions of major Russian cities. Featured on the coins are: 1) infantry assault at Stalingrad, 2) cannon manufacturing in Tula, 3) truck mounted rocket launchers in Smolensk, 4) the Murmansk ship convoy, 5) the defense of Moscow, 6) Soviet marines landing in Novoruslisk, and 7) a convoy of trucks relieving the siege of Leningrad. The 2 Rubles are all struck in a copper-nickel-zinc alloy. The bimetallic 10 Ruble shows an officer holding a pistol rallying his troops into battle. The reverse features an unusual latent image feature within the "0" of the 10 as an anti-counterfeiting measure. These are an historically significant, yet inexpensive coins. " Attached are some pics. Quality is not great but I will post better pics when they are available. new world more of Hero cities coins... Last edited by CtahhR; 07-26-2013 at 03:05 PM. |

To continue the topic - here's another one - 1 Ruble coin with image of Order of GPW - to commemorate 40 years of a Victory over Germany.
