Very interesting. I just read in McDaniel's book that the medal was awarded to 'all servicemen and civilian volunteers in the Red Army, Navy, and NKVD who directly participated on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War or supporting the victory by their work in the military regions.' This takes in a large number of categories that were issued the award. It would be very interesting to see some post-war photos of foreign recipients wearing this award. It's too bad the ribbon wasn't with the medal, if there was one.

Hope to learn more through this thread.

William,

A better scan would've been helpfull. I am guessing that the patina is probably genuine, so the loop is most likely a repair. I have never seen a fake Victory medal yet.

What do you think?

Alexei,

Thanks!

I tend to think that most likely it's a repair/modification. No point of fakes such in-expensive medal.

yes, indeeed, I 'd see it well in a french or more probably in a polish set (the great loop which hosts the ribbon)

Ch-

I concur with your idea. Or, perhaps it was made as a replacement for a foreigner who lost theirs.

William-

In regard to the Victory medal, since it is as cheap as it is, why not just buy it for a novelty if anything else. :D If you don't want to buy it, I will. ;)

Robert-

I actually have quite a few foreign groups with Victory medals in my collection. None of them that I own, however, have anything other than the "standard issue" Victory Over Germany medal.

Dave,

I'd buy the medal, but it's offered in Russia and I doubt the seller would through the trouble of sending such cheap medal to the US.

Medal Victory Over Germany Medal Document

Could anyone please tell me:

1. Who the recipient is?

2. Who awarded it (i.e. the writing on the bottom rightside) and the date of award?

Thanks for any help.

Simon

Simon,

The medal was awarded to Drozdova, Natalya Ivanovna. The document was issued by Colonel Erodovsky, Head of the 2nd Chkalovsky Military Air Institute.
