Re: NKVD-KGB: Rise Through the Ranks

In an email written to me in response to my question to him on the subject, Oleg Kalugin confirmed that, as a KGB General, he wore the uniform of an army General officer "on special occasions."

That is the impression I have gotten from just reading the multitude of posts and outside material on the subject. "Special," "rare" or "especially rare" - like KGB award presentations or other KGB-only ceremonies (of which I can think of at least a half dozen annual functions).

Re: NKVD-KGB: Rise Through the Ranks

Guys,

This is a topic on the same level as the one about the Loch Ness Monster...

I believe that it has been clearly established by now that:
. KGB generals never wore dark-blue piped M54 and later uniforms, they were using red-piped ones.
. Genuine dark-blue piped M54 parade uniforms do exist, but have nothing to do with the KGB. They were designed and used by the MVD following the 1959 reform and up until the 1970 reform, which changed their piping color to red and brick-red.
. Photographic evidence also confirms these facts. I believe that I have posted before in some other thread the pictures below: general A.A. Kurkov's service uniform (displayed in the StP History Museum of the Political Police, on loan from the StP Museum of Political History).

Can we, please, put this one fairytale to rest once and for all and keep going forward, instead of running circles around the same dead horse every so often?

Marc

So Marc, you're seriously trying to tell me this wasn't a cosmonaut space suit?

Re: Triple Crabs

Jeez, Guys! I saw the thread title and thought you were discussing crap we could catch back in my Navy days!!! Whew! I had a disturbing regression for a moment. They really need to call that order something else...
