How can I date this tunic? Is this WWII period? And what are these boards? Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, these are only pictures from the Internet. Do you have pictures side by side from WWII and post-WWII periods buttons?

pullover
I am not a fan of this pullover being wartime at all, but i would ask if the buttons had a 2 digit date on the back or are they too rusty to see (a common way to hide postwar dates; they even punch holes where the dates are).
If he will not provide that info, do not buy it. dd |

Thanks. I'll see. I think the price reflect a post-WWII period pullover.
What are these kaki boards? There is nothing on them.

Soviet,
I believe that these boards are the field version for infantry privates. Marc |

I have those same kind of boards in black. Are those for artillery private or for special troops ones?

Its hard to tell from the pics, but the boards look like the reversible type, which I do not think came out until the late 50s. In WW2 I think the boards were all 1-sided, either sew-in or loop type, but non-reversible.
Also, I think all boards were piped until the late 50s. Last edited by Nack; 08-30-2006 at 08:23 PM. |

Very interesting! I'm still looking for WWII period one, so I need to inform myself before to do one move.
