Re: Economy and orders/medals market are in bad shape
If that fellow the other day who was caught robbing millions was buying up the high end awards market for investment whose to say the legitimate investors are buying up the awards with no interest in them other than the $$$ and speculated profits?

right price for Service to Motherland 3
Guys I'm being offered Order for Service of Motherland in Armed Forces 3d Class.
I really want to get it in my hands. The question is: How match it's worth nowadays? Roughly. Based on your knowledge and experience. TA for your attention

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Ph3s,
Price depends on SN. Ealry ones tend to be more expensive, later ones cheaper as most of them were never awarded. IMHO, these orders have been and remain way overpriced, considering that about 140,000 were made. For a later issue, I would not pay more than a couple of hundred dollars. Marc PS: by the way, these are now faked quite convincingly, be careful |

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Hi Marc thanks, the number of award is 70k, so I have a doubt it's been awarded. I have no concerns order is antithetic but the asking prise is more than twice of the sum you stated. Is it an obvious rip off?

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
I think Marc's estimate is on the low side, even for wholesale.
I do agree that there are lots of fakes and I'll add the market is in flux. |

To each one his own, but to me, these cannot be worth more than what I stated. Compare with other orders/medals that were manufactured in similar quantities, and one can only come to the unescapable conclusion that these currently are grossly overpriced, especially given the quantity of unissued, yet available to collectors, pieces. Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Marc, is there a readily available source where they are selling for that price? You are entitled to your opinion to which you provide supporting data, but until the market bears out such a price, again I still think it's on the low side.
Bottom line = assuming you have several Crabs, are you prepared to let all of yours go at that price? If so, I think they would sell out pretty quickly indicating your designated price is extremely good. |

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Just to throw in my two cents: this late-era award really doesn't do anything for me. Too modern, unsexy, unattractive....even kinda late for Cold War hijinks. I really have little desire to add these to my collection. Maybe at a steal price, less than $200 I might consider.
But I suspect I'm in the minority on this.

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Paul,
About a year and a half ago, the "normal" price for a late-type suspension ORB was in the vincinity of $800... At the time, many sellers had the same type of reasoning and explanation as you have. Despite what "the market" was indicating, these were grossly overpriced (hence I did not participate in the purchasing stampede at that inflated price level). Marc |

Re: right price for Service to Motherland 3
Marc,
OK, to test I'll offer to buy the first three genuine Crab IIIs for $200 a piece from those who offer until 16 MAR. Any takers? |
