Graduation Badge.
This is a crop from a picture I have of my great-grandfather. I'm trying to figure out what the two things near his right breast pocket are. Can anyone help me? :)
EDIT: A friend of mine who is into militaria things found me a badge that could be one of the things near the right breast pocket. That badge would be the Imperial State University graduate badge. But which Imperial State University? Is it even possible to find out which? And what's the white thing? Last edited by KCT; 12-26-2007 at 04:06 PM. Reason: Add another picture and some more text |

KCT,
This is a badge for any University graduate, except for medical professions. There were also similar badges for MA and PHDs. Could be one of them, but hard to tell for sure. It would be easier to research if we knew something about your great-grandfather. I have no clue about the second one, could be commemorative of some sort, religious .. or just about anything. Alexei :)
Thank you for replying! What little I can tell you about my great-grandfather was that he supposedly graduated from a university (which one, we don't know) and was a history professor for a short time, was supposedly a Major (no idea what division in the military nor the unit), as well as a school inspector in various cities in modern-day Poland and an attache to Persia. He and his family were based in St. Petersburg. I don't know if any of this is true and that's why I figured I would start my research on him with what he is wearing in the only picture I have of him. Can you discern what's on his collar? It looks like two stars with something in between them on both the right and left side. What would these stars represent, if anything? Are they decorative? Do they identify a rank? |

KCT,
Vadim would identify that branch insigna in the blink of an eye. Just have to hope that he will drop by some time. Marc |
