Stasi Shield Badges

I've been fortunate in the past to have been able to amass a nearly complete collection of MfS shield badges, including what Frank Bartel has determined as the most rare- the un-numbered shield plaquette (not a badge but, rather, an attachment for items such as gifts, plaques, etc.). This collection is shown in the first image here.

There was one shield that alluded me (for years) until today... the un-numbered shield badge (second image). I am happy to say this final shield is now in the complete collection. Whew!

Congratulations on a job well done.
I'm sure there are plenty more holes to fill.
This collecting lark can be an uphill struggle... sometimes blindfolded too.

Thanks, Ctahh and yes, there are some more holes that need filling. At least I can strike this from the "bucket list" ;-)

Greg - Nicely done!!! And CONGRATS!!! in increasing your stasi collection. I very much like seeing these types of threads...:rolleyes:

Now all you need to get is the 20 year anniversary variant of the stasi badge. :D

Ah yes, Ralph, the very elusive enameled version. Always looking. Wonder how many I've actually seen (on the 'net) but didn't know it because I didn't have the shield in hand. If I weren't the epitome of honesty and integrity that I am, and with the knowledge gained through being a journeyman metal finisher which I was prior to the Nav, such a thing could be fairly easily made from a laquered example. Makes you wonder, don't it? ;-)

I do have another variant of the 40 Year Shield not pictured here- the very last variant. The shield pictured here more or less matches the other shields; the pin back has the same catch and the polyester coating, which I understand has a tree sap component, has the same yellow cast. The final variant has a pin back identical to the final medals that were issued (sort of relies on spring pressure rather than gravity) and the coating appears totally artificial and untinted, allowing for a better appearance of the grey colour. This variant is covered in Frank Bartel's book.
