Stanisław Rapacewicz

An interesting, but incompleate group to a veteran of the 2nd Berlin Regiment of the 1st Warsaw T. Kościuszko Infantry Division Stanisław Rapacewicz.
During the War he held the rank of sierżant podchorąży (sgt.-officer candidate, in this case it means he was an NCO who had a high school education), however, his Grunwald Badge ID says he was chorąży (at that period it was the lowest officer rank, later it was moved to the category it had before the war - warrant officer). Interestingly, in the list of awarded, KIA and MIA of his regiment, he is listed as wachmistrz podchorąży. The rank of wachmistrz was an equivalent of sgt. used in the cavalery and military police, so he was either a member of the Mounted Scout Platoon or Military Police Platoon. I will be able to check that if I manage to putmy hands on the regiment's history book.
The awards he got were:
1.Silver medal to the meritous on the field of glory (award present, doc missing)
2.Bronze medal -"- (-"-)
3.Victory and freedom medal (had the medal somewhere, but must have left it in the box while taking the awards for the picture, doc is missing)
4."For Warsaw" medal (award prasent, possible ribbon replacement, doc present)
5.Grunwald Badge (doc present, badge missing)
6.Soviet VoG medal (award and doc are not in my possesion - were sold on the auction for an exorbitant price, have the doc scan from that auction)
7.Soviet "For the liberation of Warsaw" Medal (doc present, award missing, altough I got a brass attachment device with the group - possibly from this award or VoG, as the VoG was a conversion to polish-style ribbon.

Also present: silver medal miniature, Letter of gratitude for participation in breeching the Odra river (ersatz)

Soviet Warsaw medal doc
Gratitude Diploma - a nice example of an ersatz doc - they probably ran out of the blanks, so it was re-written on a typewriter on the back of a letter paper of some german company

Re: Stanisław Rapacewicz

I got the regiment's ww2 history book in my hands, but to my dissapointment I have found no new data on Rapacewicz - he doesn't show up in the text and is only mentioned as wachmistrz podchorąży awarded the silver "meritous on the field of glory" medal and as sierżant podchorąży awarded the bronze "meritous on the field of glory" medal in the regiment's 1943-1946 awardees list.
The book turned out to be much less soldier-oriented than those of the 6th division's regiments.
Interestingly, there are two books on the 2nd regiment's ww2 history.
One is "Azymut: Warszawa" (azimuth: Warsaw), and as many books published in the early 50's contains more propaganda than facts. The other one, which I have recently finished reading, is "Drugi Berliński" (Second of Berlin, the regiment earned the "Berlin" name for it's actions in the capture of the City), which was published in the late 60's. It gives more useful information, but unfortunately no detailed awarding information.
