Re: why would anyone make these?
To sell to tourists....there are guys in other forums who have tried to sell them as genuine "wearing copies", but few have been fooled.

Re: why would anyone make these?
Wearing copies? You mean if you happened to be one of the 17 people (or one of their descendants) who received one or more of these you'd rather wear a patch in public? Aw, come on!:laff I know tourists will buy some goofy shtuff, but really, a line has to be drawn somewhere. I have to agree with Larry about the absurdity of even making these things. And Doug, I'm glad "few have been fooled" but that implies that some have and it's those some that worry me.

Re: why would anyone make these?
If I had a nice blazer I'd sew one of those on. :) What a chick magnet I'd be!
I've seen those bullion-type patches for many, many different awards. Not just Soviet either.

Re: why would anyone make these?
There was a thread in another forum that I used to post in where someone posted these patches...they said they had bought them as "originals" from a forum member (a member of the other forum)..anyway, myself and Dave both mentioned that these were tourist items..the seller got very upset, brought up suing us for defamation, etc. He had a neat little trick..he said you could return the patch as long as it was in the original condition...well, he sold them in these dumb envelopes with a fake wax seal.... to get to your "original" patch you had to open the envelope and break the seal..once you did that you could not longer return them as they were not in 'original' condition....nice trick..so,eventually, the guy was forced to issue a few refunds to some naive buyers in order not to be suspended by that forum....Dave and I never actually heard from his lawyer.

Re: why would anyone make these?
People really fell for that line?
If I wasnt so darn honest I'd try it. I've acquired 3 of them and for the life of me cant remember when. They were in a box of goodies I bought from a Russian gentleman in the parking lot of a flea market. Amazing what you can get for a sawbuck. |

Re: why would anyone make these?
Don't you know? Those are for Order of Victory recipients who work aboard submarines and warships to wear so that the salt water and humid air does not ruin the originals.

I knew there was a good reason. What about moth damage to the woolen back?
