Giant GTO Badge (for Flag?)

Hi guys, any idea what this piece in my collection is? I haven't found any info online about it, it definitely looks nice in my bookcase. :thumbsup I assume it's a GTO badge made for pinning on top of a flag, maybe for parading around in Komsomol events etc. Not too valuable since it's such a limited sphere of interest, but I like it! Any ideas are welcome.

Probably you are correct.
Considering the size of the badge, it is for the flag.

Lol yes a choking hazard indeed. :) Thanks for the comments guys, yeah this is likely something for the '80 Olympics, maybe even something that was attached to a flag that was paraded around during the ceremony events? I need to check video for the opening ceremonies etc. :thumbsup

I certainly would not say Olympics. Late 70's early 80's yes but nothing to do with the omitted rings.

This badge has nothing to do with Olympic games.
It is GTO. It was probably used as a badge on the flag during one of GTO turnaments.

Good point. The symbol of the Moscow olympic games was on everything of the period... Yup I know all the GTO types (I recommend this book to anyone interested: OZON.ru - Книги | Знаки оборонных обществ СССР. Фотокаталог советской фалеристики. Часть 3 | А. С. Зак, И. Г. Калистратов, В. Г. Воронченко | | Библи ), just have never seen this "giant" badge in catalogs or forums etc. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I know it has a pin-back fastener, but it also may have been attached to an organizational news bulletin board or something too. There are many examples of oversized Soviet awards that were mounted on organizational entry ways, offices, etc. of the organizations that had been awarded the respective award.

Paul, I think you are right. In a Russian forum today they offered this image--of a trophy awarded to organizations that exceeded some GTO targets. I surmise mine was attached the same way. :thumbsup

I agree with you. Looks like traces of glue on the back. I guess the broach pin was added later.
