I also know a seller in the same part of the world that you bought your award that has a large quantity of blank award books- this book may have very well come from his stock. Last time I saw him, he had a box full of the empty orange/red award cases as well. I'd bet the entire award set up came from him...

I agree with Dave.

Look at the shape of the hole where the order is placed - it could fit any Soviet award.

Order for Personal Courage. SN 2215

Alexei,
Others,

I am now equipped, so here are the weight and measurements for this OPC 2215 :

* Weight :
* Order : 33.0 g
* Suspension + ring : 8.7 g
* Total : 41.7 g.

* Measurements :
* Height : 48.17 mm.
* Width : 44.61 mm.

I hope I did not make any mistake in measuring and weighing : I did not imagine how difficult it is (specially for weighing without disconnecting the suspension) !!! But I did it several times with similar crosschecked figures

All these figures seems to me compliant with the data usually published (Mondvor, this site...).

Do you have any comment on these datas ?
I would be more than interested in any similar figure or element from your database, if you have any (that what I think ! ;)

Cheers.

Ch.

Personal Courage No. 635

Here is a late Order of Personal Courage awarded in 1990 with S/N 635. This number is just at the upper edge of the quantity of awarded orders.

Christophe,

So far your measurements are good. I would also like to know thicknes in mm at the tips of the sunburst and in the middle.

Measurements

Alexei,

Many thanks for your comments.
Here are the additional measurements you asked for :

* Thickness at the tips of the sunburst (in beginning by the top one, and clockwise) :
* Top tip (without the ring) : 2.97 mm.
* Top-right tip : 3.06 mm.
* Bottom-right tip : 2.97 mm.
* Bottom-left tip : 2.96 mm.
* Top-left tip : 2.83 mm.

For the "middle", I am not sure to have fully understood...
What do you mean : the middle of the order itself ? Extremely difficult to measure because of the rotondity of the order... And do you measure it including the thickness of the letters or not ?
Or is it the middle of the tips of the sunburst (far more easy to do...) ?
Can you precise it ?

I hope these measurements have been well done, as it not easy at all to succeed in doing them !!

In advance, many thanks.

Ch.

Christophe,

I think I've tortured you enough with my questions :) I believe that your Order is most likely genuine.

Alexei,

Excellent news !! Even if I was not really worried about it... it is always better to know.
BTW, I still have a capacity of resistance :) , so if you need any other measurement...

More seriously, do you have a database on the measurements you asked ? Do you have comparisons points, and are you able to see - thanks to the content of your database - on this basis if an OPC is genuine or not ?
If you have one, - I would fully understand you don"t disclose its content -, it would be very interesting to have an idea.

Many thanks for your knowledge.

Cheers.

Christophe,

I have an extensive database with measurements and detailed scans of comparison points for many types and variations. I also have a very large collection of zeroxes of Paul McDaniel's COAs. Your piece looks good, all the usual check points seem OK, and all the measurements are within range. I still can't say that I am 100% sure that this piece is good, because for that I will need to actually see it, but most likely it is good.

Difficult to answer.
Mine booklet is, according to PMD, a variation 6. The one you posted is a variation 7 (the latest variation).
If it is a genuine one, its SN seems to extend the range of awarded OPC's SNs.
Alexei, any comment ?
We would be interested in benefiting from your expertise and knowledge.
