Dr. Bob,

Now I understand the source of your misinformation. Gazeta.ru is one of the most unreliable sources of information about Russia on the net - all news there is presented in a misleading and distorted way, and in many cases they just spread lies. Just out of curiosity, you do know who owns gazeta.ru, do you.

Oh, nobody I know in Moscow would not call the police to solve a burglary.

Alexei:

This is getting to the level of "your mother wears army boots!" And it is getting very far away from the subject. Perhaps if you would like to contact me by personal message we can continue this fascinating discussion, but I think it would be much better to do it over a couple of glasses of new Russian beer.

I seem to have started an argument that I did not mean to. I am not insulting Russians, Russian culture or anything that you should feel personally responsible for. I certainly do not want to insult you.

Would you, in the spirit of kritika i samo kritika, like me to admit my mistakes and promise to never make them again? I think that you are too young to remember those good old days.

I actually wrote out two pages worth on this subject but then remembered another thread where I was fighting a similar battle to no avail...

Oh well.

Rusty.

this thread is funny!'i've been going to some some estearn ex-communuist country that can't be that different for russia and i experimented that as long as u paid u got what u wanted !
I got fined by the police (state org!)for a traffic light that didn t exist! and seen someone being fined for not wearing his seat belt instead of an overspeeding offense after having put a bank note in his driving licence! ha ha ha.
Well not too serious it s only traffic police!
But i've seen more serious case of bribery involving "higher" state org wich i will not tell here.
As in the country i was in, state orgs ,even if "corrupted", are notably far less corrupted than those in ex ussr and not suffering of an heaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavy mafia problem i wouldn t be surprised at all; no no no ; if the state mint was producing "fakes" or if someone that bought more or less illegally some dices from the mint was making these fakes!
The power of the mafia is such that most european governments are really concerned about what s going to happen !
Even , businessmen are not encouraged to go to deal there!
All of this doesn t mean that russians are bad but just that they suffered from communism for so long that they now need to make a decent living , opening the door to the unthinkable!
ah ah ah
dr. bob is sooooooooooooooo right: how can you affirm that one doesn t forge old awards while the very same one is selling nuclear or biological stuff to the higgest bidder!!! you must be joking!! no offense it s just ...logical.

Olezha,

I am sorry, it was not intended as a sarcastic remark. I guess it was a bad way of saying that I disagree with your statement, and would like you to elaborate on this issue.

A quick remark...

Do I think that the awards leftover from USSR are still in existence at the mints = YES.

Do I think that the old Order/Medal dyes exist = YES

Do I think that Moscow mint can produce awards from the old dyes = YES

Do I think they actually do = NO

Anything is possible gentlemen! However the real topic of this thread falls into the category of improbable...

Eric

Eric, Guys,

We all know, that the Soviet Union has a history of making State authorized forgeries, like for instance the famous Gangut Rouble, but that's a little different, because they didn't have a stock of those coins to sell. The Gohran still has tons (that's not an exaggeration) of Soviet awards leftovers, so why would the mints still produce them? Are those stocked awards being "leaked" outside?, I don't know, maybe, but if they are, very few people would actually know about it, and they would certainly not be members of this forum.

The mints still keep all the dies to make Soviet awards, except for those that were worn out and destroyed, but the stories about dealers borrowing those dies to make a limited number of copies are just ridiculos. The security at the Russian mints are as tough as that at Fort Knox for one simple reason - they work with precious metals. You can't even sneeze at a mint without the Government authorization.
