What is the award that this Yugoslavian soldier has on his breast?
Is it a Red Star or some Yougoslawian award?

That looks like Yugoslavian order - Partizan Star 3rd class...

The award was instituted on August, 15, 1943 in three classes.
The award was given to commanders of Partisan units and guerrillas for skilful actions and bravery.

Photo shows a group of yugoslavian partisans , I suppose they would
have earned some partisan stars if they survived the war.

This is one of my favorite Communist Bloc order

This 3rd class is from the early issue made in the Soviet Union by the MONETNY DVOR. This order is much nicer than the late issues which were made from the Zagreb Mint. The issue of this award ceased in 1973.

Gentlemen,

I have a question about 3rd class stars.

We now recignize two main variations:

- early Soviet-made pieces,
- speciments made by Yugoslavian makers.

What are the distinct chracteristics of Soviet-made ones (besides screwplate nut saying "Monetniy Dvor" or "IKOM")?

What do we know about the serial number range of actually awarded Stars of 3rd class?

In our catalogue we have the number of awarded at 9,277. I assume the number of manufatured Soviet pieces was higher, as I've seen Stars with SN above 9,277.

What happened with un-issued pieces? Were they all shipped to Yugoslavia or were some left in Soviet Union?

Hello to everyone interested in Yugoslavia decoration.

I have found one nice russian, Monetni Dvor III class Partisan star at the Belgrade market. Number is low, from WWII period. Please take a look and enjoy ;)
