There was a total of three books with photos and relevant documents accompanying this uniform.

As for the ribbon bar, if one single award is added to the total amount of awards, the shape of the ribbon bar may change significantly between the years the photos were taken. Please remember, there were way more photos, but I only had those left.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

how cool ,,

so what we have here could be considered as a confirmed case that at least this Kgb general wore a red uniform.
and make it much more plausible that this was common use.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Ser-g,

Basic rule is that modern, i.e. after the 1950's, KGB Generals wore army uniforms with red piping...there are a few threads here dealing with it...the "1980's KGB Generals" items with blue piping, etc. I feel are simply made up, or possibly made for some never done uniform change. Tretov is 100% on for this. His Petrov grouping was superb, and shows the regular army uniform being worn...also, this is what is shown in the KGB museum itself. Check out the other threads for more details, does not make a lot of sense to go over it again in much detail in this thread.

You´re right, but the ribbon at the left of the sixth corner in the photo with the young man is different. It looks like a "device" or a rosette. It´s not in the ribbon bar of the uniform you owned.

BTW, that uniform was a nice piece.:)

Some Polish, Hungarian and East german awards come with these small devices as part of the ribbon, it may be a rosette, a small-small version of the award itself or in the DDR case, a small metal plate with the DDR seal. I would not be surprised if these devices only came with the original award and was not available when a new ribbon bar was to be made some 10-15 years later when new awards had been added. That may be the explanation why a roundish thing in an older photo is present, but not in the later bar. The ribbon bar in the uniform is also larger than in the pic with the young lad and the ribbon that differs may be in a completely different position.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Wow that is impressive. :)

Nice uniform!
So does that mean that KGB generals only wore army colours after a certain point?
And if so, does that mean that other ranks below generals in the KGB would wear royal blue piped and detailed uniforms?

Lonny.
