Re: Order Of The Saur Revolution
US Soldiers are also pretty foreign in Afghanistan!
I'm going to take this opening to warn everyone that there is a new vast wave of Russian made fakes of Afghani awards of all levels. Fortunately they are not that convincing. They have the look and feel of the cheaper Russian Organisational "awards". If you find that too good to be true item - it will be!

I have been back and forth to Afghanistan for a decade now. There have not been any wave of fake Afghan awards seen here where I am at ... barely any at all for sale. The vendors are having a difficult time finding any good condition medals/orders to sale to the few buyers here. I have looked closely at the Order of the Saur and can say with confidence that they are not cheap ... in looks or how much the vendors are asking for them. Apparently they have access to the internet in Kabul and have seen the prices asked by a certain web store. I took some photos and will post them this weekend. v/r Dat |

Re: Order Of The Saur Revolution
You'll find the fake Russian produced items coming out of "western" areas. These items are so obvious (to anyone who has ever handled any real Soviet period items) that anyone with experience will not be fooled.
The fakes I've see coming out of the Afghanistan region have all be extremely crude cast pieces that look like someone has made in the absolutely poorest of conditions. Many items are only a shadow of what they are supposed to be. I've seen people buy up both the cast pieces and the modern Russia/Ukraine produced items though so some people must not care or not do their homework.
