Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
Opinions on this badge please.
The same seller was selling this one, which desantnik has said he 'didn't like'. http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...man-badge.html Kind Regards, Shane Cook. Last edited by scook17; 06-10-2008 at 01:33 AM. |

Re: Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
Shane, I don't like this one either.
For this I'm going off of memory, but have seen 3-4 actuals several years ago of this piece. The current butch of forgers is capitalizing on great demand and many collectors who don't know "what right looks like". There are many excellent fakes of these early badges coming out. From Georgia, I've seen several that were fake early aviation badges, deputy badges, etc.. The enamel on both these pieces is too cherry red and too glassy for being 70+ years old. There seem to be no nicks, scratches, and day-to-day wear that is evident on real pieces. Additionally, on the other badge the enamel was too white and my alarm goes off when I see the "mickey mouse ear" screwback. I don't remember the reverse screwback being this elaborate either - this is one that I would have remembered. If one dealer has both of these pieces (and/or more) I'd be even more wary. |

Re: Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
Is this one or two pieces? There is a rather large, artificial enamel break on the 2/3 o'clock ray on one and none on the other.
Enamel does not break like this. |

It must be two different pieces. Didn't even notice at first.
It's like one of those "spot the difference" cartoons. :chuckle

Re: Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
Shane,
Stay away :thumbsdown This badge simply doesn't have that 1920's feel that the real badges have. Paul pointed out at the enamel, I'll add the glaring lack of details. It is also quite disturbing that the seller is showing 2 clearly different badges. These are simply so rare, that to own one would be an achievement, and to own two would be simply out of this world (OK guys, prove me wrong; someone on this forum must have a couple of those - I mean genuine ones, of course :D) Marc |

Re: Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
This one badge, not two, or at least being sold that way. I have a number of other photos of badges from the same seller. I will post them later. Thanks guys.
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

Re: Bolshevik Uprising in Kiev
Shane,
On the pictures that you posted, there are clearly 2 different badges: one which is similar to what it purports to be, and the second one with the missing enamel and which also has the lower right side of the cogwheel missing. The seller may claim that he is showing one badge, you should clearly know better. Given this seller's track record, I am not sure you really need to keep bothering with his offerings, IMHO. Marc |
