All his activities as a military writer are associated with the life at the frontline of the units, soldiers and officers. During our army’s period of combat actions at the beginning of 1943 he was awarded the Medal for Combat Merit. Since the very beginning of this year’s combat operations comrade Plakhtin has been situated with the frontline units (the 107th, 109th and 164th Tank Brigade), widely covering their combat actions and presenting the top heroes of the fighting, their self-sacrificing conduct and their military skills. As a military writer, comrade Plakhtin primarily works with the 11th Guards Brigade, where he has been spending his time since March 3 of this year. Comrade Plakhtin provides a lot of material for the newspaper. His articles ‘Guardsman Ivan Daibov’, recounting the courage and military qualities of a Soviet tank crew member, and ‘Yablonya’, dealing with hatred toward the enemy, were particularly brilliant, as well as many others. He has been maintaining a lot of correspondence with German-fascist scoundrels about atrocities, in which he demonstrated the barbaric psyche of the Hitlerites bandits.

Captain Plakhtin deserves the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.

re: Red Star, writer for the Leninskoye znamya,592703

Kiwi,

Very nice Red Star citation! Actually I find this more interesting than a combat citation. Not to take away from their history...there's just more of them.

Come on...the last line of "He has been maintaining a lot of correspondence with German-fascist scoundrels about atrocities, in which he demonstrated the barbaric psyche of the Hitlerites bandits" is worth the price of admission alone.

Congratulations on obtaining what I feel to be a unique and rare award to a writer.:thumbsup

Short, concrete description of his combat feat or merits:

During the period he has been working for the newspaper he showed himself a resourceful journalist and soldier, capable of taking initiative. He spends the majority of his time with the units, observing the lives of soldiers and officers. This provides him with rich material for correspondence. Using this material he wrote a number of essays and notes about the heroes of our units, and he prepared a series of articles in order to exchange combat experience among tank crew members. He wrote the following highly interesting essays and articles: ‘Tam, gde tanki Korolkova, tam pobeda’ [Where Korolkov’s Tanks are, There is Victory], ‘Konstantin Savelyev’, ‘U syn Donbassa’ [With the Son of the Donbass], ‘Osechka’ [Misfire], and ‘Goluboi motylyok’ [The Blue Moth,‘ Agitatory [Agitators], and others. During the entire period of offensive operations he was situated with the 11th Guards Tank Brigade. There he prepared his notes about men who had taken part in combat, covering the heroism, bravery and courage of the tank crews. For the men of this brigade he held several literary evenings prior to combat operations. All his activities with the brigade contributed to lifting the morale of the men and the fighting spirit of the tank crews. He always carries out all assignments from the editor and the chief of the Political Section honourably, and the material he provides the newspaper with is of high quality. He deserves to be awarded the Medal for Combat Merit.
