No, it's quite tightly done. Thre's a bit of space between the paper and the badge, but there was only dirt there. Also, a rotting material would probablu damage the paper.

In theory, there's no way to find out who bought something when auction ended more than 2 months ago.
But, there are a few ways. First, You may try to ask allegro to give You info (supposed that You know the auction number - and I think You know if You had placed a bid). They probably won't give You that data unless You motivate it grvely. But it's worth trying.

Second way - locate the seller and ask him. If it was a seller who often sells this kind of stuff, there should be no problem.

But negotiating with people who bought something may be hard. I had to pay 150zł for GPWI'85 w/doc that was sold for 65zł and I had to give away some nice docs to get an ORS from Czech Republic.

And once I payed a double price for a polish award doc since I had already bought other docs belonging to that receipent.

As for this badge - I wrote to the buyer (whom I knew before) and asked wether he won't sell me the tank insignia. Unfortunately, he was also interested in it, but he offered me this badge. How could I deny?:)

What's that.......thingee (technical term) in the upper right corner? :)
Is this a new variation? Or just part of a badge wedged underneath to enable a good photoshoot?

Seriously, I wonder......and I'm just too lazy (after a long day at the salt mines) to surf for images of old Guards Badges. :p

I didn't notice iit's visible on the photograph. It's Volgograd pin the I used to stabilize badge in thid position to take a picture.

Good news thanks! I'm still in the baby steps phase of collecting Soviet WWII militaria. So I appreciate the help! That Guard's Badge is enroute to me now.

Alas, it arrived and what I mistook for a reflection on the left side of the star was actually missing enamel. :cry:

Ah well, it might not be perfect, but it's REAL. Thanks again.

To see them in prominent wear in the field, it's surprising they don't all do. No shame in enamel lost honorably.

Thanks for the pick me up.

I'm actually coming to Soviet militaria from the firearms collecting side. And there, I prefer original condition, unmessed with war dogs that actually look like they saw some action over pristine or reworked examples. Heartened to hear that some badge collectors feel the same way!

Oh and Jeffrey...I'm a displaced San Antonian myself. Clark grad 1984 :thumbsup So, howdy y'all!

Glad you like the old stuff, all here agree. If you want to send forum members into fits of apoplexy, show a picture of some nice old silver Order of Patriotic War and ask folks if it would look better if you polished it up.
