Question on uniform

My Russian friend, Vilen, was a Lt. in the Soviet Parachute Regiment. His Father was a Colonel of the Medical Service and would like a uniform to put together with his Father's awards. Would a M55 uniform still be in use in 1960's? If it was I'm going to give him one of my Medical service Colonel's uniforms

The M55 Parade uniforms were used from 1955 up to 1958 only.

What about officers who retired during that period? Could they wear their M55 when going to see the parades or veteran gatherings as veterans nowadays use their service or parade uniforms to wear their awards?

I think they could, at least there are photos of them doing so. But as with the USSR, regulations and practice are two different.

Doc,

That would be very generous of you to give your friend the M1955 Colonels uniform! M1955's are not that east to come across (medical is very rare to begin with!)...you are a god friend!

He is a VERY good friend. He's looking for a Service or Parade uniform. I'll have to find out what year he retired as I understand there were all kinds of combinations of boards, etc. post-1958. I'll let you know what transpires. I may get some Russian lessons in return. Heck, he'd do it anyway;)

I think a M1955 would apply quite well if it´s the parade uniform. They tend to be in use for a longer perod than the service ones that change almost imediatly after the regulation have been changed. In parades among the higher ranks there seems to be many diffrent types in use at the same time.
