For you Eric. This is from last August.
Christophe, look at the bulding (tour) on the second picture. These are right beside the metro station. As I said, as soon you find the metro station, you cannot miss the market.

Ixmailova
It is possible not to find Izmailova while in the park itself; the area that we find interesting is only about 5% of the park. The rest is huge Turkish, Korean and Chinese trading stalls. Venture into that area at your own risk. There is little rhyme or reason to how its set up and getting back to the "collecting" section can be a nightmare.

Doug,
Exactly what I experimented... without any success. But, next week, thanks to all of you, it should be better... Ch. |

Back in 1992, the entire market was an assortment of random people with stuff on blankets lining the road. By early 1996, they had set up the fence at the entrance and people sold out of plain metal booths... MAN has the place changed!!!!!!! Dave |

I am like Dave timeframe. I was in Moscow over two summers in the mid-90's and has Izmaylovo really changed. I just loved going there and and spending an afternoon wandering around buying medals. The problem back then was deciding what to buy; there was good stuff everywhere!

Guys,
Just as for many other places in Russia today, I am not too sure if the term "flea" is still appropriate. Marc |

I would recommend against buying and sticking solely to looking. First, fakes, second, exporting will present problems.

I haven't really seen any Soviet medals for sale last summer. I saw fake Suvorov and Khelminsky. There was a lot of badges for sale (Academy, Guard, etc.), but I haven't seen any WWI medals. Maybe the seller don't show them to the public. I saw some jubilee and victory over Germany. That's all I saw for medals. They had a lot of german WWII medals and many fakes also. I think I saw more German militaria than Soviet militaria out there.

But, out of this, is it worth going there... just for curiosity (or the "ambiance" ) and spending a good while ? Or do you recommand other places ?
