Vadim-
Thanks for the links - I've had a great time downloading a lot of these files! Question for you: Do you have any recommended sites with downloadable maps of battles/fronts/etc. from the War? Reading Russian in the large amounts presented by these documents is unfortunately difficult for me, but I can read maps very well! Thanks for your help! --Dave |

Wow! I guess it's true what they say: Be carefull of what you wish for, you might get it... BIG thanks for all the excellent links.
This will take some time to go threw. You are also correct in assuming that I have little/no knowledge of the Russian language. But if there is a will to learn and you have Russian friends to bug it all works out in the end.. The fact(?) that the US congress library and US universities has the books are of no help to me. Here in Sweden we have some good libraries but they lack bigger Russian military works. The only link I had heard of before was the I remember link. Very good and historically important as many veterans are getting older. /Kim |

NKVD Convoy Troops
Can anyone point me to a source that lists units in the NKVD Convoy troops, i.e. number designations of battalions/brigades etc?
I have a researched award to someone in the NKVD Convoy Forces' 249th Regiment and I'd like to find out more. The approval authority was the 3rd Ukrainian Front if it helps. |

Soviet 4th Army After 1944
Just got a neat grouping in for an officer who served with the 4th Army in the Spring through Fall of 1944. Does anyone know what the Army was doing at that time?
Thanks! --Dave |

This website: http://rkkaww2.armchairgeneral.com/ has all the info possible and if you can't find it, ask the owner by email and he will find it for you.

Gents,
For your consideration. I think a bit better translation would be "524th Independent Chemical Defense Training Battlion." Regards, slava1stclass |

10th Motorized Rifle Regiment?
Does anyone out there have any information on the 10th Motorized Rifle Regiment? They aren't listed in Sharp's series, but his motorized unit references are extremely limited. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

unit
Dave,
the flag is an M1943 style flag which did not change from 1943-1990; the unit might be a postwar one, in which case it will be tougher to track. is there a date in the sleeve, or a signature? DD |

MotorRifle
When did the soviets start to use the term MotorRifle? I had an M1943 flag for a Motorized NKVD unit a few years back and the word motorized was written out; was the term "MotorRifle" used in the GPW era? I never really thought about it, but it might help to date the flag.
