It's a 1953 "Excellence in Militia" badge, which was an award for good service.

Just purchased this badge. Made of aluminium and paint it would seem. Is the screw original to the badge? Thanks

The first of the "lesser" award badges (these could be awarded at a more local level- the "egg" badges had to go through the Ministry), this Excellent Worker of the Militia, MVD, USSR was awarded from 1953 until 1962. Constructed of brass and hot enamel at the Leningrad Mint.

This document accompanies the '53-'62 badge and was awarded on 30 December 1961 to Kadyr Sattyev. It is signed by Police Commissar, 2nd Class Muradov, Deputy Commander of the Bukhara MVD.

In 1962, the MVD (Ministry of Internal Affairs) became the MOOP (Ministry for Public Order). This change was short-lived (1962-1968), but produced several distinct medals and badges. Here's the Excellent Worker of the Militia, MOOP, which was awarded from 1962-1968. Made by the Pobeda factory from aluminum and paint.
