Re: Meritorious Titles Of The Ukrainian SSR.

It's curious statement because I never saw those prices, even in the Ukraine. Theses medals are not much desired, but dealers never risk to give such excessively low prices. If they'd get stuck with those medals, official prices should be logically ridiculous?

Documented pieces are scarce, because they were not widely awarded.

About other republics, the medals are pretty sarce too: not a big demand, but the low offer justifies sometimes high prices asked, especially in Russia... documented sets go usually pretty high. The awarded numbers often fall below the first thousand.

Re: Meritorious Titles Of The Ukrainian SSR.

The RSFSR/RF Titles always go for crazy money in comparison to all the other SSRs/ASSRs/CIS members' Titles.

Strangely the Documents usually turn up separate to the actual portable pieces. Unnumbered awards are far less sought than serial numbered examples (especially with matching paperwork) but that goes for any awards from anywhere.

I've seen a great drop in the market price of UkSSR Titles and Prizes in the last few years. For example the "(Honoured) Gramota Of The Presidium" once sold for over $50 per award (once even saw one sell for over $200 without a document!) and now, $5 the pair.

The price drop in Ukrainian SSR items is very much linked to the Crimea issue, the Ukrainian laws on symbols and the fact that most "enthusiasts" enthuse over All-Union or Russian items.

Rarity also doesn't really factor into market prices, specially if there is minimal demand. A long service Soviet Medal "For Combat Merits" will bring more money than a UkSSR Title nearly every time but the Soviet Medal is vastly more common.

Supply and demand is also at a constant change due to the spread of access to the internet. More sellers are able to offer items to the market and more collectors are able to understand just what the item offered is. There are still lots of believed fairytales out there but reality presents itself sooner or later. Some items that were deemed to be "tat" are realised to be something of real importance and the value sky-rockets whilst on the other hand, something that had a fairytale attached that has since been debunked plummets.

It is very interesting to watch it all unfold. These Republic Titles are still outside the mainstream and often overlooked or thought of in a rather derogatory fashion, but they were very high end awards in their time and not handed out en-mass just for turning up on the day. One of the issues is, we just don't know how many were awarded and how many were still in the warehouse at the end of Soviet rule. Lack of information can often make a collector skittish of parting with money.

As for myself, I've paid between $1-$30 for undocumented Republic Titles and between $4-$50 documented.

I haven't been clear enough. IMHO, all titles are pretty expensive in Russia, not only the RSFSR ones. Russians have been mastering the market since many years now.
We westerners appply what we osberved in Ukraine to the all-former Soviet union zone, but Ukraine is nearly an anomaly. Westerners nearly "vaccuumed" the Batlic states and Ukraine. Ukraine have been a collectible tank for us, nearly dried. But Russia remained nearly untouched.
Now Russian collectors do their market in others former republics.

And to stay close to the question about republican titles, they have been really scarcely produced in all others republics, but Ukraine.
