On the back of my red star serial No 3.106.113, there seems to be a very clear 6 before the first 3, and I asked HuliganRS if he knew what was up with it, and he then pointed out that in between the 6 and 3 there is also a very faint 2, 3, or 5. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Note: if anyone would like a bigger scan i can send it to them, and i will also try to post a better quality scan soon.

Heres a bigger scan of the serial no.

the 6, if indeed there is a 6, does not look engraved, and is not in the same style as the rest of the serial number. Your blowup only reveals the 3-million range serial number. You'll notice that the digits are engraved in a "slash" style, distinctly different from the 6 that appears to be in your first scan. Maybe an unusual patination, like some strange "birthmarking"???

I found this pic interesting because it shows the reason why excesive cleaning of your awards should if possible be avoided.
look at the wear to the central medallion.

Eddie.

I remember a grouping to a Cavalier of all Three Classes of the Order of Glory, the obverse features were pretty much obliterated because of the recipient's daily polishing. Must have been some pretty harsh polishing!

Found this one. Something about the serial number and the stamp at the back. What do you think?

Dannybou,

It's genuine. Mint mark is fine and the serial number is done in the correct style.

Dear collectors,

Has anybody seen this style of serial number on a red star? Could something be wrong with it or was it just an "artistic engraver" ?

I have seen this style before. I believe it is done with a rotating tool.

Cheers!

Eric,

With all due respect, this is not a rotating-tool.

Janna,

I believe this serial number is genuine and done in a style that I have seen for this type before.
