Medal "Mount Baekdu".

Here is the Medal "Mount Baekdu" (백두산) and all that is known is what is seen. Made from copper and also inscribed Democratic People's Republic Of Korea (조선민주주의인민공화국).

Re: Medal "Mount Baekdu".

This looks completely different to the other DPRK awards. It´s the first time I see this kind of Hangul font on one of them. Maybe it´s just a jetton or a tourist souvenir?

Re: Medal "Mount Baekdu".

Unlike tourist pieces it is a solid heavy piece and although the size can not be gauged from the picture it is considerably larger than most DPRK Medals. It could be a sporting or organisational award (although they usually identify themselves as such) but more information has yet to present itself.

Re: Medal "Mount Baekdu".

Never seen it, never heard of it.
I wonder how old it is...
How thick is it? If it's really thin, I'd say 1940's, or early 50's.

Re: Medal "Mount Baekdu".

Without getting the callipers out - pretty thick. I would estimate 1970's by the "feel".

Re: Medal "Mount Baekdu".

Hm... If it's pretty thick, it's closer to the 70's. :thumbsup
