Naval Visor Caps.
So I've had a Naval ship captain's winter visor cap for a few years now, but I don't know if it's the real deal. Here's the cap:
It seems to be made up of authentic parts. The faded label is from the Lagoda Factory, the buttons are 1986-dated, the visor is the later plastic type. The sweatband is authentic and has the acceptance stamp inside it. The material and construction feels right too. The ribbon around it isn't like the current glossy smooth ones either. However, the shape is alot like current fakes (slopes up steeply in the front, large flat crown that extends far back). The cockade is the earlier type, so it's not correct for the later-dated visor and buttons. I'm really not sure what to make of this, so I was hoping someone could help. I've had it for about 5 years now, and it's been bugging me. Thanks!!! |

Re: Puzzling Navy Visor Cap Questions
The cap looks perfectly OK to me. I have seen al least 3 navy officer caps with this shape and size of the crown, and they were all, like Yours, made ofheavier wool material. The eldest of them was aquired by a friend of mine in the 90's, before cap faking business became so widespread. Also, this isn't a cap uncommon enough to be faked I think

Re: Rank visor navy
Officer or extended service NCO. Maybe cpt. 1st rank (has the cord instead of chinstrap), but more likely - general officer's everyday cap with chinstrap changed to cord - this might have been done in the era (it did happen), or lately, by the seller.
Te cap may indeed be pre-69, but can also be 1969-80 judging from te visor. The date on the buttons will help. |

Re: Rank visor navy
Al-muell,
I disagree, this is NOT a general's cap. Marc |

Re: Rank visor navy
I dont see how I can look at the back of the buttons for a date, so I made a frontal picture of them.

Didn't mean that. I wrote "general officer cap" in the meaning "for all the officers". Sorry for that ambiguation.

The button is brass - it would indicate that the cap rather isn't newer than early 60's. Last edited by Al-muell; 02-04-2013 at 02:41 PM. |
