Re: Midshipman Grigorij Klement'evich Slipchenko,Diver,Red Banner Baltic Fleet.

Is it a knock down or a push up from Nakhimov Meal to CSM?

There were far less Nakhimov medals awarded weren't there? But it was worn AFTER the CSM in the order of precedence wasn't it?

This may not have anything to do with anything, but i'm curious.

Neither a knock down, nor a push up; the Nakhimov Medal was the Navy equivalent of the MCM, but as you say it was worn immediately after the MCM in the order of precedence.

There seems to have been a good bit of confusion in his case between properly "naval" awards and the parallel "army (and air force)" awards. His Ushakov was originally recommended as a Medal of Bravery, while the Nakhimov (which would have made for an even more delightful group!) got morphed into it's army "brother", the CSM. There seems to have been a good bit of confusion and sloppiness between the navy/army awards, between the Ushakov/Gallantry and Nakimov/Combat Service medals.

I'd like to hear the thoughts of others on this issue. Maybe I just want to see more system and more rationality than has ever existed in any nation's "system" of honors.
