Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

I wonder more about this very common 40th Jubilee medal. It's so shiny and it has a distinctive (lower) ring to it. Is it one of those later, vokomat(sp?) issues? Basic, one piece, late issue aluminium suspension. Not that the suspension means anything.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Eric,

Both medals are :thumbsup

The 40 year one is the regular 1958 issue.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

When these become valuable enough to start making very detailed fakes to fool beginning collectors, that will be when I make back some of the money I've spent on collecting because I have plenty of these hanging around.:D

:) Naw, I just wanted to generate a little interest in some underappreciated (IMO) medals and get some good info for free (thanks, Marc!!). If I was ambitious enough to translate the Mondvor pages for these, or even pull The Red Book off the shelf I could have found what I needed.

BTW, the 30th Jubilee medal was the first mainly military medal issued after the end of the GPW* and when I see it on a bar I think "old-timer".

* The Donbass & Moscow800 medals beat it by 5 months.

Oh, it's a fake - enamel overlap onto the metal, poorly shaped "XX" and lots of missing details on the reverse...:thumbsdown

Eric, there's a button at the top of my screen (in the Google Toolbar) that pops up when I go to Mondvor that says "Translate Webpage" or something like that - and presto, English (sort of) but faster than reading all that text in the original Russian, for me at least.:D
