Dissinformation

The beginner collector is exposed not only to fakes and coppies, but to misleading descriptions on Soviet awards.

In this thread I hope that every now and then we will find examples of high price for cheap medals, dissinformation etc.

My first example - the medal "veteran of the armed forces" + document for....$45.00!!

Read: "Russian 1990 Police officer medal with document. Issued to Police Major Alexander Koval in 1990. Original award booklet. Perfect condition. "

Well....

dissinformation

I would love to sell those for $45.00 !! I'd be rich ! LOL, smile. But seriously, this is a problem especially when you see someone selling them for that price and you know the person knows better. However, I have found that many novices who obtain a soviet medal for the first time thinks it is worth alot more because they don't know the difference between the rare ones and the common ones. To them, they are all rare because this might be the first one they have ever seen. Of course, the tendancy is then for them to sell it for much more than it is actually worth without even knowing they are doing that. When one of these examples shows up on the online auctions, it is not too difficult to see if it is an honest mistake or a deliberate ploy. But with a site like this, hopefully we can educate everyone so less people will get burned. There is nothing worse than, putting your trust in someone, thinking you got a good deal, and then finding out you overpaid and the person probably knew you were overpaying.

Tal,

I think you should return this medal to the seller because it was misrepresented.

Well, what a lousy way to make a buck! Besides I think this is the surest way to loose customers, you can't cheat and lie forever!
