Russia's Presidential Emblem.
Just discovered what looks like a russian order, and is in fact the insignia of presidential authority : the Russia Presidential Emblem.
It consists of the Emblem itself and its chain. The gold Emblem bears a cross with four equal arms that widen at the ends. The front of the cross is coated with ruby enamel and the distance between the ends of its arms is 60 millimeters. The cross is trimmed with a narrow raised welt. The State Seal is superimposed on the center of the cross. In the center of the reverse side there is a round medallion. Has anyone more information on this ? Do you have seen Vladimir Putin wearing it ? Thanks. Ch. Last edited by CtahhR; 05-07-2012 at 08:08 AM. |

I have seen Mikhail Kalashnikov wearing it with a red neck ribbon.
BTW, is he still alive? Esteban

What wears Mikhail Kalashnikov is the Russian Federation Order for Merit for the Country. Look at the attached pictures, even if the two orders are very close, they are not totally similar. But, good point : the Presidential Emblem seems to be the highest highest grade of the order. Ch. |

The Emblem of the President of the Russian Federation consists of the emblem itself and the chain.
The emblem represents a golden cross with dilative ends, the right side of which is covered with ruby enamel. The distance between the ends of the cross equals 60 mm. A narrow convex welt frames the edges. The State Emblem of the Russian Federation is located in the center of the right side of the cross. A round medallion occupies the back of the cross. The motto: "Benefit, Honour and Glory" is engraved in a circle. In the centre of the medallion there is the date of its manufacturing - 1994. Laurel branches are at the bottom of the medallion. The emblem is connected to the chain by means of a wreath of laurels. The golden, silver and enamel chain consists of 17 links, 9 of which are in the shape of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation, 8 - in the shape of round rosettes with the motto: " Benefit, Honour and Glory". On the backside of the chain links the names of every President of the Russian Federation and the dates of their inauguration are engraved in golden letters on white enamel. This version of the Double Headed Eagle is also present on the President's Standard. Approved by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on February, 15, # 319 "On the Standard of the President of the Russian Federation"; The President's Standard represents a square flag with three equal horizontal strips: white at the top, dark blue in the middle and red at the bottom (these are the colours of the National Flag of the Russian Federation). The golden State Emblem of the Russian Federation occupies its centre. The flag is fringed with gold. The Standard's staff is decorated with a silver staple where the name of the President and the date of the inauguration are engraved. The Standard's staff is topped with a metal spear-shaped tip.

It's interesting to note that the Imperial Eagle was kept...

Rusty,
Yes it is, Putin seems to be a nostalgic sort of guy. The Red Star is also being used again. The main difference that the Emblem of the President of the Russian Federation has compared to the other versions of this order is the Red Enameled St George center Shield, otherwise they are all very similar. Eddie.
